With Pegasus missing the influential Wayne Martin and Chris Brooks this was always going to be a struggle and but for losing two black ball games Pegasus could well have got something out of the match. Pegasus skipper Jamie Mathers came through a scrappy low scoring match against Beeston's Shane Kidd before Neil Jones responded with a solid win over James Booth. Pegasus substitute Steve Booth very nearly got the better of his opponent with a timely 23 break with just 25 left on the table only to see the rejuvenated Anthony McMahon clear up for a crucial win to put Beeston two one up. Mathers and James Booth then ensured the leg would be tied with a good performance over Jones and McMahon in the doubles frame but down at Beeston some serious damage was being inflicted. The impressive Clint I'Anson looked back to his best after a poor summer season by putting Pegasus's Danny Castel-Nuovo to the sword with a huge 123 points to 6 winning margin. I'Anson got off to a great start knocking in a classy 55 break which he followed up with two further 30 something contributions during the performance of the night. Pegasus responded through Nav Hussain who enjoyed a good 33 point win over the talented Tom Walters before a very close final singles match up between Zeb Ahmed and Beeston’s Chris Hodgkinson which was won on the black by the Beeston man. This all meant the Pegasus pairing of Hussain & Ahmed needed victory in the pairs to salvage a point from the match. Once again it was the dialled in Clint I'Anson with good back up from his partner Andy Spicer who came through to win this important match 5-3 for Beeston.

BCI Braves secured their first win of the season with a 5-3 victory over Phoenix Cue Sports. Phoenix Captain Steve Howard struggled against Dave Salmon and despite getting to within 5 points, the BCI man took the frame. Nick Oakley beat Toby Irons to level the match but Mick Salmon won on a re-spotted black against Gary Birks. The impressive Ryan Baker then beat Shaun Parkinson to level the match once again. At Bulwell, Clint Broome suffered a hefty defeat at the hands of Ash Goring but Paul Bradley’s 33 break levelled the match for a third time as Stephen Lally lost out. Donovan Burton won a tight frame against Roger Giddens and the BCI pairing of Craig and Paul Bradley won a scrappy final frame against Naomi Claire and Ash Goring.

DIVISION 2

Unlike last season, City Hospital Leisure Centre didn’t have to wait long for their first victory this time around as they defeated Cotgrave Welfare 5-3. At City Hospital, Rob Wallace beat Colin Armstrong, Russ Kirk beat Phil Foster and Chris Willett beat Chris King. Newcomer Rob Paterson restored some pride for Cotgrave, making a terrific 47 break in his win against John Bakewell. Cotgrave are renowned for their 4-0 victories at home, however this week they were without the influential Harry Briody and it showed as they could only manage a 2-2 draw. John Cyrek dispatched Sean Croft with ease but Dave Buckley hit back for City with a fine win against Billy Johnson. Steve Evans beat Lee Archer but City’s inspirational new signing, Les Smith, beat Bill Campbell to seal the victory.

The University of Nottingham maintained their one hundred percent record with a 6-2 win against Oakleigh Lodge Social Club. At the Sports Centre, Alex Smith defeated Spider Wilkinson and Dale Prime beat Steve Roe. Uni Captain Robin Hicks suffered a rare and heavy defeat against Tej Lees. The final pairs frame was very close but the Uni pair of Smith and Prime just pinched it to leave Wilkinson and Roe winless on the night. At Oakleigh a re-spotted black was needed in the opening frame between Kalpesh Mevada and former singles champion Jason Turner. Mevada’s 38 break no doubt gave him that extra bit of confidence and he dispatched the black to take the frame. Tom Laycock beat Rob Selby and Ben McIntosh beat Adam Robinson but Turner and Selby beat Mevada and McIntosh in the pairs.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Defending champion sets the standard

Nav Hussain looks in no mood to lose his Premier Division crown this coming season after a 4-0 win which included a classy 70 break in his opening fixture against fellow Pegasus team-mate Zeb Ahmed. Chris Winter making his Premier Division debut against Lee Crombie was also in good form knocking in a excellent 53 break during a 3-1 win against the Sherwood man whilst Stewart Crosswell also enjoyed the taste of victory by seeing off newly promoted Neil Elliott by the same scoreline.

In Division One, Danny Castel-Nuovo beat last seasons runner-up Mike Langdon 3-1 whilst Malc Belshaw had an excellent four nil victory over James Booth. Toby Irons who finished last season strongly beat BCI clubmate Shaun Parkinson 3-1 and the match between Wayne Bilbie and Steve Coleman ended up a hard fought draw.

In Division Two there were good wins for league newcomers Clint Broome & Paul Bell who beat Jordan Parnham and Daniel Norton 3-1 respectively. The match between Adam Robinson and Sean Croft ended up all square but the early table topper is City Hospital’s Rob Wallace who beat Steve Roe four nil.

In the first round of the Singles Championship Mike Langdon had breaks of 56 and 34 as he saw off Stadiums Ross Wilkin 3-1 in an excellent match. Neil Elliott was pushed hard by Toby Irons but came through to book his place in the 2nd round by winning the deciding frame.

It was a family affair as Jamie Mathers started the defence of his Handicap Singles Championship with victory against his son Chris whilst Kwok Yip beat fellow BCI club-mate Toby Irons by the same 2-1 score-line.

Nottingham University may have started the season well but there was no joy for both of their entries into this years Handicap Pairs Championship. Robin Hicks and Alex Smith went down two nil at home to Arnold’s Malc Belshaw and Richard Tooley whilst Dale Prime and Chris Walker lost by the same score-line at Phoenix against Steve Howard and Ash Goring.

City Hospital struggle without Clark

NOTTINGHAM & NOTTS INSTITUTES ASSOCIATION SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 12 OCTOBER 2009

DIVISION 1

BCI Elites got the season off to a flyer with a good "away" win against newly promoted BCI 'B' by 4-1. Jason Bettridge got them off to a good start by beating BCI 'B' captain Neil Elliott by 45-34. Captain Kwok Yip then took the next frame 59-38 against Toby Irons to make it 2-0. Jon "8 pints" Mason made it 3-0 with a convincing 58-28 win over Jeff Allen. It was left to Ian Dawson to stop the whitewash and he managed a close 41-32 win against Paul Bell. Carlton LC travelled to new club SE Derbyshire SC and came away with a 4-1 win. Danny Di Folco won the first frame by 78-49 over D.Laurence. Bob Walker took the second frame by 79-40 against G. Wood. It was SE Derbyshire SC captain Dave Mayer that pulled a frame back with a massive 97-26 win over Andy Ball. Bob Wright then won a tight frame 55-40 against J.Daykin to seal the win for Carlton LC. Spot On (Hucknall) had a very good home 4-1 win over dangerous City Hospital LC, who were playing without their top man Chris Clark, who is ill. We wish him a speedy recovery. G. Ashurst won the opening frame by beating Gaz Morrison by 69-30. Paul Wrathal, City Hospital's captain, pulled a frame back with a 61-26 win over M.Grocock. Captain Daryll Clarke then took the third frame by 78-39 over Glen Price. Adam Goodall won the last frame 87-26 against M.Lane to make the 4-1 win. Steve Needham then won the last frame 57-31 over Rob Ryan to seal the win.

DIVISION 2

BCI 'C' went away to Masters SC and came away with a good 4-1 win. Steve Capsey (Senior) won a close opening frame 59-51 against Cary Davies. Steve Howard, playing for the first time with his new team, pulled a frame back with a 70-41 win over Steve Capsey (Junior). The clash of the captains saw Shaun Parkinson win 57-44 over James Robinson. Sean Croft made it 4-1 to BCI 'C' with a huge 68-15 win over Paul Bell. Ruddington CC went away to Sherwood SC 'D' and won 3-2. Gaz Evans put Sherwood SC 'D' ahead after the first frame by beating captain Nick Kirkman 58-32. Maurice Hudspeth pulled a frame back with a 53-45 win over Kev Smith. Dennis Dyer had a big 88-12 win over Sherwood SC 'D' captain Andy Fitton. Les Smith then beat Dave Griffiths 76-46, but it wasn't enough to give Sherwood SC 'D' the extra point. Sherwood SC 'B' had a good 3-2 win away at Mapperley CC.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Oakleigh Lodge run top of table BCI close in cup

NAZARETH HOUSE SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 6 OCTOBER 2009

KNOCKOUT CUP GROUP MATCHES

Table toppers BCI Super Elites (40 handicap) were run extremely close by an Oakleigh Lodge (240) side that sits fifteen places below them in the league. At BCI Jason Bettridge scored 54 points to Jason Turner’s 45, the latter making a good 31 break. Bo Murtagh scored 31 points and restricted Tony Collins to 47. Neil Elliott played well, scoring 68 points compared with Steve Roe’s 19. A high scoring pairs frame saw Bettridge and Collins taking 70 points against Turner and Tutin’s 41. Bettridge had a 33 break. At Oakleigh Lodge, Jamie Moore scored an impressive 89 points as his opponent Adam Robinson was restricted to just 17. BCI captain Kwok Yip was taken all the way by Spider. The Oakleigh captain potted a terrific long black only to go in-off to hand the frame to Yip 44-42. Rob Selby scored a creditable 41 points to Jonathan Mason’s 68. The pairs frame was also close but it was BCI’s Moore and Mason who defeated Spider and his partner 58-51. The final tallies after adding the handicaps were BCI Super Elites 538, Oakleigh Lodge Social Club 527.

The group A match between Nottingham University (140) and Stadium Leisure (80) was extremely close, the Basford side emerging 555-515 winners. At the Sports Centre, Tom Laycock proved tough opposition for Daniel Di Folco. Laycock couldn't miss in the early stages of the frame but Di Folco finished strongly to win the frame 67-51. The frame between Dale Prime and Steve Butler was fairly even until Prime made two fouls late on. To his credit though, Prime potted pink and black to ensure he only lost by one point 56-57. The third frame was also close but it was University captain Robin Hicks who emerged victorious against Ross Wilkin 57-51. In the pairs, Di Folco and Butler took on Laycock and Prime and a solid 24 break from Di Folco proved the difference as the Stadium pair clinched the frame 63-41. At Stadium, Barry Stark was made to work for his victory by the impressive Kalpesh Mevada. Stark made a 22 break but only won the frame by ten points 59-49. Matt Hearson-Ellis played well and had a comfortable 67-32 win against Michael Sullivan. Pete Gormley also won 56-45 against Ben McIntosh and the pairing of Stark and Hearson-Ellis took the pairs with a 55-44 victory over Mevada and McIntosh.

Mapperley Community Centre (120) enjoyed a 601-483 win against a lacklustre Pegasus Snooker Club B team in group B. The night had started well for Pegasus with Andy Orange making it three straight wins with a 10 point victory over Don Merry. Mapperley bounced back through Andy Carnell with a 78-44 win over Eric Towle which was followed up with a win for Doug Bough against Daniel Norton. Mapperley’s Merry and Carnell narrowly won the pairs frame against Orange and Towle by sinking pink and black. At Mapperley, Mike Langdon was awful against Chris Wright who won by 30 odd points in an error strewn frame. Danny Knowles did respond for Pegasus and also stays unbeaten after a good 53-34 win against Chris Starr whilst Chris Mathers was unfortunate to go down against the dangerous Geoff Merry. Merry had opened up an early lead thanks to an excellent 30 odd break before Mathers responded with a couple of small breaks. With the frame now delicately poised Mathers was left ruing his luck when he went in off the brown having taken the last red, credit to Merry though who cleared up the colours for a 73-34 victory. Pegasus's rotten luck continued in the pairs with several freak fouls helping the sharp Mapperley pairing of Wright and Starr to a whopping 81-17 win over Langdon and Knowles.

Division one side BCI Braves (120) lost 540-542 to second division Cotgrave Welfare (160). At Cotgrave, Harry Briody defeated Toby Irons 71-27 and John Cyrek beat Mick Salmon 81-33. Billy Campbell lost to Dave Salmon 49-57 but Steve Evans and Briody beat Dave Salmon and Irons 57-42 to secure a 99 point victory for Cotgrave in the home leg. At BCI, Craig Bradley beat Colin Armstrong 54-35, Paul Bradley beat Phil Foster 82-14, Clint Broome beat Chris King 69-41 and Don Collins beat Rob Paterson 56-34. A comprehensive 137 point victory for the home side but not enough to avoid an overall two point defeat when the handicaps were added.

Pegasus Snooker Club A (0) produced a solid 606-509 win over City Hospital Leisure Centre (240). Sizeable wins at home and away kept the dangerous City Hospital at bay. At Pegasus, Chris Brooks beat Rob Wallace 88-43 and Jamie Mathers beat Sean Croft 85-25 but James Booth went down 30-71 to Jordan Parnham. The ever improving Parnham produced an excellent win over the Pegasus man to get his team back into the match. In the pairs Mathers and Brooks beat Wallace and Archer 98-18, Brooks getting back to his normal consistent break building best with a run of 45. At City Hospital there were hefty wins for Wayne Martin, Danny Castel-Nuovo and Zeb Ahmed. Les Smith made his debut for City Hospital but he didn’t stand much chance against Castel-Nuovo.

Chris Winter starred for Arnold Civil Defence A (0) in their 572-456 victory over Lenton Liberal Club (180). Winter made a terrific 53 break and scored a total of 100 points in his frame against Lenton’s James Murrin. John Fountain also contributed 97 points to Arnold’s impressive total as Lenton failed to score more than 50 points in any of the eight frames played.

Beeston Snooker Hall (0) and Wollaton Royal British Legion (240) produced a high scoring match. Beeston’s haul of 617 points included an amazing 115 points total from Johnny Kareer and a terrific 55 break by Ant McMahon. Wollaton’s total of 514 points resulted from solid performances from most team members.

In the final match of the night a plethora of high scoring frames helped Phoenix Cue Sports (120) and Arnold Civil Defence B (160) score 593 and 532 points respectively. Phoenix were particularly impressive at home.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

BCI Elites win Knockout Cup final

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 5 OCTOBER 2009

KO CUP FINAL

BCI Elites clinched the Knockout Cup and the treble with a very close fought match against BCI 'B'. The Elites giving away a 21 start to a very dangerous team that contains some quality players. Kwok Yip got off to a terrific start during a pulsating frame with Neil Elliott that could have gone either way. Both players missed a few chances but Elliott potted some terrific balls late on in the frame to win 70-42 and open up a good lead. Wayne Martin managed to pull the Elites back into the match with a tight win over the naturally gifted Mick Salmon. Salmon did not give anything away and Martin struggled with a new cue, making this quite a tense affair. However Martin took the frame 69-25. Jon Mason then beat Jeff Allen 44-35 to even up the match. Allen missed a relatively easy black to the middle pocket to gift Mason the seven crucial points that may have made a difference to the overall score line. In the final game Paul Bell took on Toby Irons in another tight game that could have been won by either player. However Bell again showed his quality and mental tenacity by keeping the dangerous Irons at bay and the Elites on top as he took the frame 68-46 and with it the match. The final score was BCI Elites 223, BCI 'B' 197.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Arnold suffer rare defeat at hands of Beeston

NAZARETH HOUSE SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 29 SEPTEMBER 2009

DIVISION 1

Arnold Civil Defence A had, up until this match, only tasted league defeat twice in the last three seasons. So it came as a bit of a shock as news filtered through that they had been beaten 7-1 by Beeston Snooker Hall. At Arnold, Chris Hodgkinson beat Richard Tooley but Ant McMahon lost out to the experienced Tony Hart. Shane Kidd beat James Notman and the pairing of McMahon and Kidd defeated Tooley and Brian Kinton to give Beeston a 3-1 away leg victory. At Beeston, Clint I’Anson beat Chris Winter, Tom Walters beat Malc Belshaw and Neil Jones made a 50 break in defeating John Fountain. In the pairs Walters and Jones defeated Winter and Fountain to seal a famous win.

Phoenix Cue Sports fielded the league’s first female player for many years in the form of 16 year old Naomi Clare. The Eastwood club also secured its first victory in the top flight with a 5-3 defeat of Mapperley Community Centre. At Phoenix Dave Allsopp lost to Don Merry but Ash Goring trounced Andy Carnell. Stephen Lally beat Doug Bough but the pairing of Clare and Goring lost a black ball frame to Merry and Carnell. At Mapperley Steve Howard lost to Geoff Merry but Gary Birks beat Raj Landa. Roger Giddens then beat Chris Starr and Phoenix won the pairs to complete the victory.

BCI Super Elites inflicted a second successive 7-1 defeat on their BCI counterparts the Braves. Jason Bettridge beat Dave Salmon with the help of two 20+ breaks and Neil Elliott beat Mick Salmon. Sam Haugh beat Shaun Parkinson and Bettridge and Elliott won a black ball pairs frame against the Salmons. Wong Yip then beat Clint Broome and Paul Bell beat Paul Bradley. The Braves won their only frame thanks to Craig Bradley’s impressive win against Jonathan Mason which went to a re-spotted black. Captain Kwok Yip then made breaks of 36 and two of 20+ to hammer Stuart Bradley 95-15.

DIVISION 2

Pegasus B responded to last week’s opening day defeat with an excellent 6-2 victory over Oakleigh Lodge Social Club. Steve 'The Force' Booth got the home leg going with a superb 30 odd point win over Jason Turner. Booth grappled control of the frame with some quality safety to frustrate the dangerous Turner and scored freely from the forced errors to win an important frame comfortably. Andy Orange made it two wins on the spin to put Pegasus in the driving seat. Orange raced into an early lead before a spirited fightback from Oakleigh Lodge Captain, Spider Wilkinson ensured a tight finish. However, it was Orange who finished the stronger to see off Wilkinson on the colours for a good 52-41 frame win. Oakleigh Lodge responded in the third frame with Steve Roe running out a comfortable winner against Pegasus youngster Chris Mathers to make it 2-1 before Wilkinson & Turner levelled the leg with victory in the pairs. At Oakleigh a much improved Pegasus away performance ran out 4-0 winners to seal the points for the club. Mike Langdon got his team off to a dream start, knocking in an excellent 45 break to see off Adam Robinson. Eric Towle was impressive against Rob Selby in a 54-12 win which included a 19 break before Danny Knowles completed an emphatic singles performance with a comfortable win over Oakleigh's Tej Lees. In the pairs frame Rob Selby looked in good touch as Oakleigh built up an early 20 point lead but Pegasus hit back with some solid potting. It was Towle, who had looked the better of the Pegasus pair who finally sealed victory sinking Green, Brown and Blue to give Pegasus B their first win of the new season.

Lenton Liberal Club returned to winning ways with a 5-3 victory over City Hospital Leisure Centre. At City Chris Willett lost a black ball frame to Adam Goodall and John Bakewell lost to James Murrin. Sean Croft pulled one back for City with a win against Trevor Clarke and in the pairs, Dave Buckley and Lee Archer beat Roy Hamlin and Jim Wright. At Lenton Matt Savage easily accounted for an off colour (in fact he barely potted one) Rob Wallace whilst on the other table Russ Kirk hammered Steve Dixon with some impressive potting. However Steve Woods defeated Jordan Parnham in a long drawn out tactical frame and Melvin Smith got the better of Steve Tring in a scrappy encounter.

The new team from the University of Nottingham inflicted a rare 8-0 whitewash on Wollaton RBL. At the Sports Centre, Dale Prime beat Ivan Noon and Alex Smith had a 38 break in his victory over M Hind. Robin Hicks got the better of Jack Packer and the pairing of Smith and Hicks defeated Noon and Hind. Kalpesh Mevada, Mark Compton and Ben McIntosh won all four frames at Wollaton.

Cotgrave Welfare drew 4-4 with Arnold Civil Defence B. At Cotgrave Harry Briody beat Alan Cunningham and Phil Foster beat Andy Nicols. Colin Marshall then beat Pete Ellins before Arnold pulled one back thanks to Cunningham and Nicols’ win against Foster and Johnson. At Arnold, Brian Kinton beat Chris King and Sean Kelly edged out John Cyrek. Billy Campbell won another frame for Cotgrave against Graham Maltby thanks to an audacious fluke on the black. Arnold then secured the draw thanks to a pairs victory for Kelly and Maltby over Cyrek and Campbell.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

BCI Elites and BCI B to contest KO Cup Final

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 28 SEPTEMBER 2009

KO CUP SEMI-FINALS

BCI B beat BCI D by 264 points to 174 at Bulwell. Man of the match Neil Elliott gave Clint Broome no chance as he ran out a 107-20 winner. Toby Iron narrowly beat Paul Bradley but Mick Salmon beat Craig Bradley by 41 points to set up the victory. Stuart Bradley did his best against Ian Campbell-Dawson but it wasn’t enough to avoid the defeat.

BCI Elites beat City Hospital Leisure Centre by 244 points to 173. The first frame saw two top players battling it out, namely Wayne Martin and Chris Clark. Both players showed their class in safety and super potting giving each other great respect. However it was Martin who pulled away to win with a fantastic 31break. Jonathan Mason defeated Gary Morrison by 41 points and Kwok Yip’s 31 break helped him to a 37 point win over Paul Wrathal. Glenn Price’s 25 point win over Paul Bell wasn’t enough to stop the Elites from progressing to the final.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Nottingham University victorious on debut

NAZARETH HOUSE SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 22 SEPTEMBER 2009

The 2009/10 season of the Nazareth House Snooker League kicked off on Tuesday and there have been some player movements over the closed season. Nav Hussain, Zeb Ahmed, Wayne Martin and James Booth have all joined Pegasus Snooker Club to create a very strong A team which will certainly be challenging Arnold Civil Defence A who have won the league title in eight of the last nine seasons. The Peoples Hall and Sherwood Social Club have been forced to withdraw from the league but we welcome a new team from Nottingham University into division two this season. Ant McMahon has also made a move, from Cotgrave Welfare to Beeston Snooker Hall.

DIVISION 1

Pegasus Snooker Club A got off to a great start with a comprehensive 7-1 victory over BCI Braves. At Pegasus, Wayne Martin marked his Pegasus debut with a 54 break in a comfortable victory over the fast improving Shaun Parkinson. It was a close contest between James Booth and Dave Salmon, but the latter made some mistakes late on to allow Booth to take the frame on the colours. There was some excellent potting from Steve Booth and Toby Irons but the BCI player won the frame on the yellow. In the pairs, Martin and Booth took on Parkinson and Salmon in a mouth watering frame with Booth making a great 26 break in giving Pegasus the advantage. The Braves then struck back with some solid match play to even things up but Booth laid a terrific snooker on the colours and Martin cleared the table from the free ball for Pegasus to take the leg 3-1. At BCI, Nav Hussain beat Craig Bradley, making a 37 break in the process. Danny Castel-Nuovo beat Clint Broome and Zeb Ahmed beat Paul Bradley. Hussain and Castel-Nuovo then defeated Broome and Paul Bradley in the pairs.

Kwok Yip’s BCI Elites only just scraped past division one newcomers Phoenix Cue Sports, beating them 5-3. Phoenix captain Steve Howard had a chance to beat Jason Bettridge, but the BCI man potted the blue, pink and black to take the frame. Tony Collins had a good win over Phoenix 2008/09 player of the season Gary Birks. BCI debutant James Moore easily beat Roger Giddens to put BCI 3-0 up. Howard and Birks managed to reduce the deficit with a fantastic 64-29 victory over Bettridge and Collins in the pairs. Howard made an excellent 28 break that could have been more but for a missed red. At Eastwood, Ryan Baker won a close frame against Wong Yip but BCI captain Kwok Yip beat Ash Goring 71-34 to put his team 4-2 ahead. Man of the match Stephen Lally lost out in the singles to Sam Haugh who made a 31 break, but he gained revenge in the pairs, making a terrific 40 break as he and his partner beat Kwok Yip and Haugh 59-13.

DIVISION 2

Nottingham University, captained by Robin Hicks, marked their league debut with an impressive 7-1 victory over eight times league champions Lenton Liberal Club. At the Sports Centre, Kalpesh Mevada made a 41 break on the way to a 75-21 win over Adam Goodall. Alex Smith beat Jim Wright and Robin Hicks beat Trevor Clarke. In the pairs Mevada and Smith beat Wright and Goodall 62-36 despite Goodall making a 30 break. At Lenton, Dale Prime lost to Matt Savage but Ben McIntosh defeated Steve Dixon and Mark Compton just defeated James Wood 47-40. Prime and McIntosh then won the pairs against Savage and Dixon.

Pegasus Snooker Club B went down 5-3 in their first NHSL match in over a decade. At Pegasus Daniel Norton who was making his debut went down narrowly against Wollaton’s Gordon Gunn in the opening match before Pegasus responded with successive wins. Steve Booth was too strong for Wollaton’s R Bartrom, but the match between Andy Orange and Rex Benson was much closer with Orange just edging out his opponent on the pink to put Pegasus 2-1 up going into the doubles. The pairs frame was once again close with Pegasus left rueful by fouling on the black to hand the frame to the Wollaton pair, which levelled the leg. Sadly for Pegasus the away leg never really got going at Wollaton. A nice break of 20 helped Ivan Noon to victory over Mike Langdon and Wollaton were soon two up when A Winson beat Eric Towle. Danny Knowles showed the kind of fighting qualities the away leg will need by coming from 30 behind and winning a re-spotted black against Mark Hind to give his Pegasus team a chance of snatching an unlikely draw in the pairs. However, the Pegasus pairing of Langdon and Knowles got off to an awful start giving away several fouls and allowing the dangerous Noon too much time at the table. Some good potting brought the Pegasus pair back into contention but an attempted double on the pink by Langdon jawed and squared up to leave a simple opportunity for Wollaton to wrap up a 5-3 win.

Arnold Civil Defence B beat City Hospital Leisure Centre 5-3. At City Hospital there were wins for Alan Cunningham against Jordan Parnham and Kirk Wesselby against Steve Tring as Arnold took a 2-0 lead. City Hospital pulled one back thanks to Russ Kirk’s close 50-47 victory over Andy Nichols but the pairing of Cunningham and Wesselby easily beat Kirk and Parnham to give Arnold a 3-1 away leg win. At Arnold, Sean Kelly beat Sean Croft but Rob Wallace defeated Graham Maltby. Pete Ellins beat Lee Archer 46-22 but the impressive Wallace, partnered by Croft, won the pairs frame against Kelly and Ellins.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

City Hospital finish season with a win

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 21 SEPTEMBER 2009

DIVISION 1

There was just one match this week as City Hospital Leisure Centre travelled to Spot On and came away with a 4-1 win. Although slightly delayed it was a great last game of the season, played at a great location with a great bunch of lads. Pud started his frame against Gaz Morrison well and was in front for the most part, until Morrison knocked in a 25 break and went on to win 84-34. Paul Wrathal had a very steady frame playing well from start to finish. His opponent Ant played very well but in the end Wrathal’s consistency paid off winning 65-44. Mick O’Neil then took on Glenn Price and games between the pair are normally very close. Some good banter and a bit of luck from Price helped him edge in front but O’Neill came back laying some good snookers. Price potted the blue to leave O’Neill needing snookers again and he eventually ran out a 57-49 winner. Malc, a new boy for the City Hospital playing in his first competitive match for some time, took on Rob who was playing very steady as normal. Rob stormed off into an early lead and maintained it throughout the frame. Malc never got going and handed Rob the game with the brown still on the table, Rob Winning 82 - 13.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Charity Shield raises £85 for good causes

Nazareth House Snooker League kicked off the season in style as they claimed the Charity Challenge Shield with victory over Nottingham & Notts Institutes Association Snooker League at BCI Snooker Centre. NHSL Chairman Pete Gormley gave his team an early lead with a win over NNIA Chairman Pete Trout. NHSL Secretary Steve Butler then put his team 2-0 up with a win over NNIA Secretary Bob Wright. NHSL Tournament Secretary Mike Langdon then lived up to his reputation as the luckiest player in Nottingham with a victory over NNIA Treasurer James Robinson that included an audacious double on the frame ball pink.

Toby Irons then started the NNIA revival with victory over Sean Croft and Wayne Martin reduced the deficit to one frame with an impressive win over Zeb Ahmed. The match was soon level at 3-3 as Danny Castel-Nuovo suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Jonathan Mason.

Jordan Parnham put the NHSL team back in front with a good win over his 6 reds team-mate Shaun Parkinson but the NNIA team were quickly back on level terms thanks to Daz Clarke’s black ball victory over Nav Hussain. With the match level at 4-4 there was everything to play for as Stephen Lally took on Paul Bell. Lally is not used to losing nowadays and he romped to victory in no time to put the NHSL team 5-4 up.

Nazareth House Snooker League needed just one more frame for victory but Ant McMahon would need to be at his best if he was to defeat Kwok Yip on his home table. McMahon has been in fine form since making the switch from Cotgrave to Beeston and Yip was no match for him as he secured the match for the NHSL team.

NNIA were a player short so Paul Bell took on Malc Belshaw in the final frame of the evening. The frame included some delightful safety play from both players but it was Bell who came out on top as the match finished 6-5 in favour of the NHSL.

It was another enjoyable meeting between the two leagues who between them raised a total of £85 for charity.

6 Reds: BCI Bandits survive scare to take title

NOTTINGHAM 6 RED SUPER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 15 SEPTEMBER 2009

DIVISION 1

BCI Bandits captured the first ever Nottingham 6 Red Super League title despite a narrow loss to the Pegasus Predators. Game one saw Jason Bettridge take on Zeb Ahmed and Bettridge lost for the first time all season in a very close match. Bettridge has been the deciding factor this season for BCI and all credit goes to him for the way he has played and the number of times he has won the high break point or won 2 nil. It was a great performance by Ahmed though, who deserved his 2-0 victory. Wayne Martin then faced Danny Castel-Nuovo in a very cagey game with Martin taking the opening frame. Castel-Nuovo then cleared from the blue in the second frame to deny the Bandits the point they needed for the title. Tony Collins now needed to take a point from his game against Nav Hussain to secure the title for the Bandits. Hussain started the better and managed to get 33 points in front with 35 on before the Collins recovery began to gain momentum. Collins potted a great red and pink before moving through the colours. The long blue was particularly awesome with the Predators showing their appreciation and great sportsmanship in cheering Collins on. However the final black jawed to the ooohs and aaahs of the crowd and Hussain pinched the frame to apply even more pressure on Collins. The break finishing on 27. Collins however remained unfazed and took complete control of the second frame and was untouchable in finishing in style. Great sportsmanship and support on the night from both sides. “A special mention goes out to Malc Belshaw and Steve Coleman who have also played vital parts in the BCI 6 Reds team” said Bandits captain Wayne Martin.

Beeston Titans knew they would need a whitewash against Beeston Vikings if they were to stand any chance of wrestling the league title away from BCI Bandits. The Titans rose to the challenge and duly won every frame but alas it was not enough as they finished just two points behind the Bandits in second place. Clint I'Anson made the highest break of the match, a nice 34 in his 2-0 win against Shane Kidd. Neil Jones then beat Tom Walters 2-0 before Titans' player of the season Ant McMahon signed off with a 2-0 defeat of Chris Hodgkinson.

BCI Giants finished the season off with a 5-2 win against Sherwood Daddies. Wayne Bilbie played Jon Mason in the first game and both players were potting well but it was Bilbie who came out on top in the first frame with breaks of 20 and 27. The next frame was much closer and it was Mason with some fine pots on the colours who took it to level the match. Bash Maqsood then faced Kwok Yip and it was the Daddies man who took the first frame with a break of 20. Frame two saw the Giants captain up his game, making a 16 break and finishing with a fine 27 clearance to level the match again at 2-2. In the final game Neil Elliott was up against Lee Crombie and it was the Giants man who won the first frame. Elliott then continued his fine form making a break point winning 32 to seal a 5-2 victory for the Giants.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

BCI and Phoenix both do the double

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 14 SEPTEMBER 2009

DIVISION 1 CUP

Kwok Yip's BCI E'lites make it a double, after taking the league title last week, with a massive 81 points victory against Spot On (Sneinton) in the final played at Masters SC. A solid performance from Wayne Martin started a match that was destined to be a good one. In beating Mick McMillan 91-19 Martin comfortably removed the 28 handicap that Spot On had started with. It was Jon Mason who pulled BCI E'lites further ahead with a 70-32 win over Ant Gilman. Kwok Yip needed a "Championship" black ball to win his game against Mick O'Neill 59-45. Rob Stansfield then pulled a frame back, beating Paul Bell 55-40, but it was to no avail as even with a 28 points start Spot On couldn't muster enough points.

DIVISION 2 CUP

After winning the division two league title last week Phoenix Cue Sports were now looking to add the division two cup to their trophy collection. Tim Hudson managed a close win for their resurgent opponents Masters Snooker Club in the first frame by beating Gaz Birks 40-35 but it was all Phoenix from then on. Ash Goring took the second frame against James Robinson 55-35. Phoenix captain Steve Howard then won 63-33 against an unlucky Paul Bell. It was left to Masters captain Bob Wright to try to win the match for Masters SC, but after being 18 points up he couldn't make up the points deficit. His opponent Roger Giddens had plenty of luck, fluking four snookers and he went on to win the frame 64-31 after Wright conceded with two balls remaining.

DIVISION 1

In a re-arranged match Ruddington Conservative Club came away with a 5-0 win at BCI 'C'. Dave Griffiths took the first frame 56-40 against Connor Kelliher. Maurice Hudspeth then made it 2-0, beating Steve Capsey (Senior) 66-46. Nick Kirkman won 77-46 over Shaun Parkinson to take the third frame and Dennis Dyer had a 66-32 win against Steve Capsey (Junior) to complete a good victory which leaves Ruddington consolidated in third place. BCI 'C' find themselves in danger of being relegated and it all hinges on the match next week between Spot On (Sneinton) and City Hospital Leisure Centre.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Steelers seal promotion with win against Falcons

NOTTINGHAM 6 RED SUPER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 8 SEPTEMBER 2009

DIVISION 1

BCI Bandits started off their double match night with a comprehensive victory over the BCI Giants, although the match was actually tighter than the scoreline suggests. Jason Bettridge took the high break with 34 on a very low scoring night. Wayne Martin got the better of the safety exchanges in a tight low scoring game against Jonathan Mason. Several 20+ breaks over the two frames were enough to get the Bandits off to a good start. Jason Bettridge produced a frame winning 34 break in the opening frame of his game against Kwok Yip and some solid snooker in the second put the Bandits 5-0 up. In the final game Tony Collins produced a very neat display against Neil Elliott giving the very dangerous Giants player few chances. Collins punished each safety error with a double figure break and ran out a 2-0 winner to secure the whitewash.

BCI Bandits then faced Sherwood Daddies in a very tense match between two sides capable of winning the league. The Daddies came out on top thanks to a modest 18 break from Wayne Bilbie which secured the break point. In the opening game Tony Collins took on Lee Crombie and with neither player firing on all cylinders the score finished 1-1. Jason Bettridge was as ruthless as ever and he enjoyed a solid 2-0 victory over the returning Bash Maqsood to give the Bandits a 3-2 lead. In the final game of the night Wayne Bilbie enjoyed the run of the balls against Wayne Martin as he took the first frame. Bilbie then went on to take the final frame with a fluke on the black, securing a 4-3 win for the Daddies.

The Bandits need just two points next week to take the title. Four teams are still in with a shout of taking the runners-up spot.

DIVISION 2

Stadium Steelers ran out 6-1 winners in the final match of the season against Phoenix Falcons to comfortably seal second place in division two. However it was much closer than the scoreline suggests with the Falcons running them close in every frame. Ross Wilkin’s break of 20 in frame three was the highlight of the night as this was also his highest of the season. Matt Hearson-Ellis won 2-0 against Steve Howard and Wilkin also won 2-0 against Ant Adkin-Walker. Pete Gormley and Dave Allsopp played out two mammoth frames which were shared.

Division two champions BCI Braves beat Pegasus Colts 4-3 with 2-0 wins for Dave Salmon and Toby Irons against Scott Bates and Chris Mathers respectively. Man of the match has to be the Colts’ Eric Towle who won his game against Mick Salmon 2-0 with the help of two impressive 22 breaks.

BCI Breakers beat Beeston Warriors 5-2 to finish in the top half of the table. Jordan Parnham drew 1-1 with Lee Harlow and Sean Croft also drew 1-1 with Nathan Hodges. Shaun Parkinson scored three points for the Breakers with a 2-0 defeat of Jamie Cunningham which included a break point winning run of 16.

Oakleigh Daft Lads defeated their club-mates the Miss Fits 4-3. Spider had a terrific 27 break in his 1-1 draw with Colin Tutin. Ryan Cooper beat Steve Roe 2-0 and Rob Selby drew 1-1 with Adam Robinson.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Phoenix Cue Sports take division two title

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 7 SEPTEMBER 2009

DIVISION 1

BCI E'lites travelled to Ruddington CC and came away with a 5-0 massacre. Wayne "magic" Martin had 3 mid 20 breaks in a 73-29 win over Maurice Hudspeth. The second frame saw Jon "Another 8 pints and take on anybody" Mason cruise to a 96-25 victory over Dennis Dyer. Captain Kwok Yip then had a massive 95-19 win against Dave Griffiths. Paul "The safety officer" Bell had an enormous 106-9 win over Nick Kirkman to round off the night. This leaves the E'lites as worthy champions.

City Hospital LC postponed their match away at Spot On Sneinton due to holidays and have clinched runners-up place without playing a shot.

BCI 'B' played their 'C' team in a relegation battle and came out on top. It's only results in re-arranged matches that can save them now despite their 4-1 win. Neil Elliott took on Hanson Stowe in the opening frame and came out winning 69-35. Toby Irons had a 57-21 win over Shaun Parkinson in the second frame. Ian Dawson beat Connor Kelliher 78-47 to make it 3-0 to the 'B' side. Sean Croft managed to salvage a point for the 'C' team with a 65-56 win against Jeff Allen.

DIVISION 2

Phoenix Cue Sports had a walkover against Sherwood SC 'D' giving them enough points to be confirmed as division 2 champions. Going away to BCI 'D' is never an easy match, but Phoenix Cue Sports managed a massive 5-0 win to make sure of the championship.

Masters SC had a tough away match at Mapperley CC. It was substitute Tim Hudson that won a close first frame for Masters SC by 59-55 over Chris Wright. On the other table Bob Wright was having a nightmare frame against Doug Bough and never really got going leaving Doug Bough winning by 68-44. With the frames at 1-1 it was Paul Bell who took the next frame for Masters SC with a gripping black ball win over Andy Carnell by 42-41. James "the treasurer" Robinson was on the other table and winning by a massive 35 points, after playing some good snooker to get in that position, with 25 points left when his opponent Don Merry conceded the frame and gave James Robinson the points and the frame by 72-12.

It was also confirmed that Sherwood SC 'D' had a walkover against Nottingham Forest SSC leaving Nottingham Forest SSC with the wooden spoon position.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

EASB Snooker Tournaments 2009/10

EASB TOURNAMENTS 2009/10
Why not enter one of the EASB's tournaments this season and find out how good you really are?

SAVE MONEY
If you play in the Nazareth House Snooker League there's no need to pay the EASB membership fee of £25.

HOW TO ENTER
Email NHSL Secretary Steve Butler at steve@nhsl.net to confirm which tournaments you want to enter and then make sure the relevant entry fees are with him one week prior to the closing date. Their first match was against the Bandits and it was the Bulwell side who went home disappointed with a 5-2 defeat. Jason Bettridge gave the Bandits an excellent start as he romped to a 2-0 win over Clint I'Anson including breaks of 30 and 24. However Ant McMahon hit back with breaks of 29 and 37 in a 2-0 defeat of Wayne Martin to put the Titans 3-2 ahead. In the final game Neil Jones beat Malc Belshaw 2-0 to secure an important victory for the Titans.

The Titans then fired themselves to the top of the table with a 7-0 whitewash of the Sharks, shattering the Basford side's slim title hopes in the process. Neil Jones took the first frame against Steve Butler with breaks of 29 and 16 as the Sharks captain failed to score. The second frame was much the same and Jones put the Titans 2-0 up. Clint I'Anson won two one-sided frames against Bob Walker with impressive clearances of 42 and 27. Daniel Di Folco made a fight of it against Ant McMahon and he just lost out on a re-spotted black in the first frame. McMahon then won the final frame to cap a great night for the Titans.

Sherwood Daddies continued their recent revival with a 5-2 win against Beeston Vikings. Bash Maqsood drew 1-1 against Tom Walters in the opening game and Daddies captain Lee Crombie was also held to a 1-1 draw by Shane Kidd. In the final game Wayne Bilbie made a break point winning 31 and eased to a 2-0 victory over Chris Hodgkinson.

DIVISION 2

There were no doubts about what would count as the high break this week after last week’s farce at the BCI Braves. Matt Hearson-Ellis took the first frame against Shaun Parkinson with an impressive 31 break before failing to take the frame ball green and go on to make his first ever half century......he bottled it! That nearly allowed Parkinson to nick it as he potted green to pink but missed out on the black allowing the Steelers captain ‘steal’ what was the best frame of the night. Another good frame followed with Parkinson looking like he had handed the frame to Hearson-Ellis leaving the opportunity to clear from the blue but he failed to take advantage. Parkinson then cleared with an 18 to make it 1-1. Ross ‘Trick Shot’ Wilkin then pulled out all the shots to nick both frames against Jordan Parnham which included a red that missed the black pocket by so much that it doubled across into the other black pocket. Not to mention the pink that again he missed by so much that it ended up in the middle bag in frame two! Parnham was unfortunate after playing some solid snooker and making a 17 break in the second frame. Pete Gormley then took on Sean Croft and won both scrappy frames with no notable breaks to seal an impressive 6-1 win for the Steelers against a plucky Breakers side.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Pegasus Snooker League latest

Pegasus Snooker League

Booth on Brink of Steeples Shield Glory

Steve Booth requires just 1 more point from his final two matches to seal the Division Two Championship. Booth beat Eric Towle 3-1 to move clear at the top in an all important tie. Daniel Norton also dented Towles hopes by taking a point of the Pegasus youngster. In the top division it's as you were with the top two players both winning 3-1. Nav Hussain struggled against Mike Langdon in a scrappy match whilst Chris Winter enjoyed a 3-1 win over bottom of the table Andy Orange, the highlight coming in the opening frame where the impressive Winter knocked in a classy 66 break. It's all very tight at both ends of the Division Three table where Danny Knowles and Luke Robinson refuse to give each other an inch. Knowles ran out a 3-1 victor over Brian Steeples in his game in hand and the title could well be decided this week when the top two players meet. Ian Westby picked up a draw against Chris Mathers in the only other match. Mike Langdon came through a tough quarter-final knock out cup match against Westby winning by the odd frame in five. Mike Langdon will now meet Eric Towle who beat James Notman for a place in the final. The other semi-final see Steve Booth take on the winner of the match between Nav Hussain and Gary Spencer. In the Members Cup both Danny Knowles and Luke Robinson progressed into the 2nd round with wins against Daniel Norton and Brian Steeples respectively.

KO Cup Semi Final Draw (Handicap in brackets)

Eric Towle (35) v Mike Langdon (14)
Steve Booth (21) v Gary Spencer or Nav Hussain (both scratch)

Members Cup 2nd Round Draw (Handicap in brackets)

Ian Westby (56) v Chris Winter (0)
Dan Hallam (70) v James Booth (14)
Danny Knowles (35) v Luke Robinson (35)
Chris Mathers (42) v Matt Parr (42)

BCI Braves clinch division two title

NOTTINGHAM 6 RED SUPER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 25 AUGUST 2009

DIVISION 1

League leaders Stadium Sharks were rocked at home by the impressive BCI Bandits. The Bandits got off to a flying start thanks to Jason Bettridge who had a break point winning clearance of 32 in the first frame against a shell socked Steve Butler. Butler then broke off in the second frame only to see Bettridge make a 30 break with his first visit. Bettridge went on to win the frame easily 40-5. Barry Stark reduced the deficit to 1-3 with a 59-11 win over Tony Collins which included breaks of 30 and 22. However, Collins hit back in style with a knock of 22 and a fine 27 clearance to put the Bandits 4-1 up. Bob Walker got off to a good start in his first frame against Malc Belshaw, making a 23 break. However, Belshaw fought back and eventually won the frame 34-28 on the black. Belshaw then wrapped up a 6-1 win for the Bandits with a comprehensive 45-7 victory in the final frame.

Pegasus Predators returned to the top of division one thanks to a 6-1 defeat of Beeston Vikings. Nav Hussain had a break point winning knock of 38 in his 2-0 victory. Zeb Ahmed also won 2-0 to put the Predators 5-0 up. Tom Walters salvaged some pride for the Vikings by taking a frame off Danny Castel-Nuovo but the Predators man took the final frame to cap a good night for the Pegasus team.

Sherwood Daddies must enjoy playing at Beeston, because they followed up last week's victory over the Vikings with a 5-2 defeat of the Titans. Neil Jones drew 1-1 with Daddies captain Lee Crombie before Bash Maqsood stepped up and knocked in a terrific 48 break in a 2-0 win against Clint I'Anson. The Titans third man Andy Spicer now needed to win both his frames and also make a break higher than Maqsood's to steal a win for his team. However, Wayne Bilbie had other ideas as the game finished 1-1 with no decent breaks. A good win for the Daddies that puts them in contention for a top-two finish.

BCI Giants are finally starting to produce the form everyone knows they are capable of and this week they demolished Arnold Aces 6-1. Neil Elliott drew 1-1 with James Booth in the opening game. Giants captain Kwok Yip then took on Aces captain James Notman. There were many good chances for both players but both failed to capitalize. However Yip managed to take the colours at the business end of both frames to put the Giants 3-1 ahead. Nothing is ever simple for Jon Mason. John Fountain broke off and Mason realized he only had half his cue! After a few minutes of searching play finally resumed and both players were potting well but also missing some random pots. Mason with home advantage just edged both frames, also making a break point winning run of 22 to seal the 6-1 win.

DIVISION 2

BCI Braves secured the division 2 title with a match to spare despite going down 3-4 at home to Stadium Steelers. Dave Salmon got the Braves off to a good start by beating Pete Gormley 2-0. However Mick Salmon lost 0-2 to Ross Wilkin and Toby Irons also lost 0-2 to Matt Ellis. Crucially Mick Salmon took the break point for the Braves with a modest knock of 12. It was this point that clinched the title for the jubilant Braves trio.

BCI Breakers continue to improve and this week they travelled to Eastwood to play Phoenix Falcons. Falcons captain Steve Howard lost a scrappy first frame to Shaun Parkinson. Howard struck first but he was not firing on all cylinders and Parkinson potted enough balls to take the frame. The second frame saw Howard pot more balls but he was still not feeling himself and it all came down to a nervy conclusion with the pink and black remaining. Parkinson potted a long pink and set himself up for a really easy black, but he missed it and Howard made no mistake as he took the frame by just two points. Jordan Parnham restricted Ant Adkin-Walker to just eight points as he easily took both frames to put the Breakers 3-1 ahead. Sean Croft failed to score in his first frame against an on-fire Stephen Lally. The Falcons man had breaks of 22 and 18 in a 57-0 win. Many other players would have rolled over in the final frame but not the plucky Croft. The Breakers player took the final frame 41-17 to secure a narrow 4-3 victory for his team.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

BCI Elites are crowned champions

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 24 AUGUST 2009

DIVISION 1

BCI E'lites are crowned champions after a 5-0 whitewash of BCI 'C'. Jon Mason won the first frame 68-30 over Shaun Parkinson. Kwok "top of the ranking list" Yip won the second frame 63-35 over Connor Kelliher. It was a one hour and forty minute frame for Malc Belshaw and Steve Capsey (Senior). Belshaw ran out an 83-46 winner in the end. The fourth frame saw Paul Bell defeat Steve Capsey (Junior) 65-27.

Second placed City Hospital LC travelled to Ruddington CC and came away 3-2 winners. Morris Hudspeth took a close first frame 57-55 over Chris Clark. Nick Kirkman put Ruddington CC 2-0 up by beating Gaz Morrison 53-51. Paul Wrathal, City Hospital’s captain, then pulled a frame back with a large 85-30 win over Dave Griffiths. Glen Price then took the fourth frame and the win point for City Hospital LC by beating Dennis Dyer 76-27.

The two bottom teams fought it out at Spot On (Sneinton). Spot On winning 4-1 (their second win of the season). Mick McMillan won the first frame by 64-48 over Neil Elliott. Ant Gilman put Spot On 2-0 up with a 66-23 win over Toby Irons and Mick O'Neill then beat Jeff Allen 71-28. The fourth frame went to BCI 'B' with Ian Dawson winning his first frame of the season by 51-43 over Rob Stansfield.

DIVISION 2

Masters SC move joint top with a massive 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest SSC. James Booth took a good first frame over Harvey Pabla by 59-36. Frame 2 was conceded at the end of the match as Jason Carter hadn't turned up. A 147-0 win for captain James Robinson. Bob " the secretary" Wright said he wasn't playing well but managed a 67-27 win over Will Danvers. Paul Bell sealed the victory with an easy 56-33 win against Keiran Statham.

BCI 'D' had a good 4-1 win at home to Sherwood SC 'D'. It was Gaz Evans that took the first frame for Sherwood SC with a 83-27 win over Clint Broome. Paul Bradley pulled a frame back with a 83-46 win against Kev Smith. Craig Bradley made it 2-1 to BCI 'D' by beating Andy Fitton by 64-45. Stuart Bradley made it 4-1 by beating Les Smith 56-33.

Phoenix Cue Sports made it seven league wins in a row with a massive 5-0 demolition of previous top team Mapperley CC. Steve Howard won the first frame 89-43 over Geoff Merry. Joe Trout made it 2-0 by beating Don Merry 74-46. Gary Birks, who has just had a shoulder operation and hasn't played for over a month, had an easy 60-11 win over Chris Wright. Ash Goring wrapped up the win with a close 51-48 defeat of Andy Carnell.

Due to unfortunate circumstances Phoenix Cue Club have had to claim their game against Nottingham Forest SSC. This leaves them 3 points clear at the top of the division.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Stadium Sharks devour Predators to go top

NOTTINGHAM 6 RED SUPER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 18 AUGUST 2009

DIVISION 1

Stadium Sharks had a fantastic 6-1 away win against Pegasus Predators and the result catapulted the Sharks to the top of the table. Zeb Ahmed got the Predators off to a good start, winning the first frame against Barry Stark with the help of a 21 break. However, this proved to be the only frame the Predators would win as Stark hit back in style to take the next frame with a break point winning clearance of 37. Meanwhile, on table two, Steve Butler defeated Danny Castel-Nuovo 2-0, including a fine 27 clearance in the second frame. Bob Walker was up against the mega-talented Nav Hussain and the quality opposition seemed to inspire Walker to produce some of the best snooker he has played all season. He was on for a 45 clearance in the first frame but he broke down on 32 when he missed a tricky pink. The final frame was much closer but Walker continued to play some sublime snooker to shock Hussain and secure a terrific 6-1 win for the Sharks.

Sherwood Daddies climbed up to joint fourth place thanks to a superb 6-1 away win at Beeston Vikings. Lee Crombie made breaks of 28 and 23 in beating Shane Kidd 2-0. Wayne Bilbie then drew 1-1 with Tom Walters and Bash Maqsood defeated Chris Hodgkinson 2-0. One of the Vikings players equalled Crombie's 28 break, so the break point was awarded to the Daddies thanks to Crombie's break of 23 which was the next highest.

Arnold Aces went down 3-4 at home to Beeston Titans. James Booth lost 0-2 to Clint I'Anson and James Notman drew 1-1 with Neil Jones, Notman securing the break point for the Aces with a run of 27. John Fountain and Ant McMahon then fought out a 1-1 draw.

DIVISION 2

Stadium Steelers stormed into second place with a 7-0 whitewash of Oakleigh Daft Lads. Matt Hearson-Ellis got off to a solid start in frame one against Colin Tutin, making a 13 break on the way to making it 1-0 to Steelers. Pete Gormley then beat Adam Robinson in the second frame without any breaks to make it 2-0. Ross Wilkin was back for the Steelers and fairly comfortably defeated Dan Robinson for 3-0. Hearson-Ellis then made the high break of the match of 18 which could have been more if he hadn’t broken down on the seventh ball. However Tutin fought back well in this one and nearly nicked it. Tutin needed a snooker until Hearson-Ellis sent the white flying off the table when awkward cueing for the blue and Tutin took the frame to the black. Unfortunately he left a simple black for a relieved Steelers captain to make 4-0. Gormley then found some potting form against Adam Robinson and eventually took it with the help of a 15 break. In the final frame Wilkin, with the help of Dan Robinson’s six fouls, emerged victorious to secure an impressive win.

The relentless BCI Braves demolished BCI Breakers 6-1. Dave Salmon drew 1-1 with Shaun Parkinson. Mick Salmon then beat Sean Croft 2-0 and Toby Irons defeated Jordan Parnham 2-0 with the help of a break point winning run of 18.

Beeston Warriors bounced back from a heavy defeat last week with a good 5-2 win against Phoenix Falcons. Jamie Cunningham had a 22 break in his 1-1 draw with Steve Howard. James I’Anson then equalled his team-mates break in his 2-0 win against Ash Goring. Neither Lee Harlow or Stephen Lally could better the 22 break in their 1-1 draw and so the break point was awarded to the Warriors.

Oakleigh Miss Fits lost 3-4 at home to Pegasus Colts. Spider made the highest break of the match in the first game, a knock of 18, but he could only draw 1-1 with Eric Towle. Danny Knowles then put the Colts 3-2 up with a 2-0 win against Rob Selby. Steve Roe pulled the Miss Fits level as he took a frame off Chris Mathers, but the Colts man hit back to secure victory for the Pegasus team.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Trio of BCI teams progess to semi-finals

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 17 AUGUST 2009

KNOCKOUT CUP QUARTER-FINALS

BCI E'lites travelled to Mapperley CC and came away 302-165 winners. A massive 77-13 win for Wayne "the menace" Martin over Chris Wright, in the opening frame pulled the 56 start that Mapperley CC had back. Kwok Yip then took the second frame 84-48 against Geoff Merry. Substitute Malc Belshaw had a big 77-28 win over Don Merry to put BCI E'lites in an unassailable position. Jon Mason wrapped up the match with a 64-41 win over Andy Carnell. As captain Kwok put it “a TM performance from the top of division 1.”
Division 1's second placed team, City Hospital LC, also went away to Sherwood SC 'D' and came away with a resounding victory by 278-164. Sherwood SC 'D' had a 56 start. Chris Clark won 54-40 in the first frame against Gaz Evans. It was Gaz "top of the ranking list" Morrison who pulled the handicap back with a 81-21 win over Kev Smith. Paul Wrathal then beat Andy Fitton 82-17, and Glen Price then finished the match with a 62-30 win over Les Smith.

The bottom two in division 1 faced each other at BCI. BCI 'B' running out 203-164 winners over Spot On (Sneinton). Spot On had a 7 point start. Neil Elliott won a close first frame over Ant Gilman by 38-35. Toby Irons then had a 73-35 win over Rob Ryan to move BCI 'B' ahead in the match. Jeff Allen then took the next frame by 49-36 against Rob Stansfield. Mick McMillan did pull a frame back for Spot On, but not by enough points to win the match, with a 51-43 win over Mick Salmon.

In the other match BCI 'D' went away to Ruddington CC and came away winners.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Oakleigh Daft Lads secure first 6 red victory

NOTTINGHAM 6 RED SUPER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 11 AUGUST 2009

DIVISION 1

BCI Bandits won a crucial match against Stadium Sharks 5-2, however it was very close. Both teams had to field alternative players through either injury or holidays but this made no difference as every frame was battled out to the last few colours. First up for the Bandits was Jason Bettridge who took on Barry Stark. The Shark took control of the first frame with a run of 24 only to lose out as Bettridge slowly clawed the frame back and then pinched it on the pink. Bettridge took control of the second frame with a break point winning run of 27 and managed to hold on despite a spirited comeback from Stark. The second game between Wayne Martin and Bob Walker was a very low key affair with Walker having a large proportion of the run and pinching each frame to defeat Martin 2-0. The final game between Malc Belshaw and Daniel Di Folco was a tight affair that went down to the pink on both frames. The run of the balls fell to Belshaw who had the majority of luck in winning both frames, although he also made a good blue to black clearance in winning the second.

Arnold Aces secured their third win of the season, a 6-1 defeat of Sherwood Daddies. This result demonstrates just how close these six-red frames are, as only last week the Daddies beat the Aces 5-2. John Fountain beat Lee Crombie 2-0, James Booth beat Gareth Evans 2-0 and James Notman had a 1-1 draw with Wayne Bilbie. For the third time this season, John Fountain secured the break point for the Aces with a knock of 24.

Title contenders Beeston Titans suffered a blow as they went down 1-6 to the Giants at BCI. It was Giants captain Kwok Yip who got his team off to the perfect start with 2-0 win in the opening game against a very dangerous Chris Rigby. Titan Neil Jones started well in his first frame against Neil Elliott but he missed a ball mid-frame which allowed the Giant to pot some great key shots and take the frame. Jones also started well in the second but again he missed a ball which allowed Elliott a great chance. Unfortunately the Giant went in-off to gift Jones the frame. The final game saw Ant McMahon take on Jonathan Mason and it was the Giant who won the first frame thanks to some good potting. The final frame was much like the first and Mason knocked in a superb 30 break to secure the match and break point for the Giants.

DIVISION 2

After ten matches without a win or even a break point, Oakleigh Daft Lads travelled to Beeston Warriors and came away with a fantastic 5-2 victory which included a break point courtesy of Ryan Cooper's run of 21. Cooper beat Steve Cheung 2-0 to get his team off to the perfect start. Colin Tutin then drew 1-1 with Shaun Harlow and Adam Robinson also drew 1-1 with Lee Harlow. Congratulations to the Daft Lads on their first win.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

City Hospital start to mount title challenge

BULWELL & DISTRICT SNOOKER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 10 AUGUST 2009

DIVISION 1

City Hospital LC brought BCI E'lites winning run to an end with a comprehensive 4-1 victory. Wayne Martin, however, took the first frame for the E'lites by beating Chris Clark 66-23. It was all City Hospital LC from then on with Gaz "top of the ranking list" Morrison beating Jonathan "8 pints" Mason 86-52 in the second frame. Paul Wrathal won the third frame 47-39 over Kwok Yip. Glen "the Chairman" Price wrapped up the win by beating Paul Bell 57-27. Ruddington CC won 4-1 against BCI 'B' to stay in third place. Nick Kirkman won the first frame 55-41 over Neil Elliott. Dave Griffiths won the second frame 44-37 against Toby Irons. Jeff Allen won a frame back for BCI 'B' by beating Morris Hudspeth 66-33. Dennis Dyer wrapped up the win with a massive 75-9 win over Ian Dawson. BCI 'C' stay in fourth place after a convincing 4-1 win against Spot On (Sneinton) who stay bottom of the division.

DIVISION 2

Mapperley CC won 4-1 against Nottingham Forest SSC to stay at the top of the division. BCI 'D', in second place, lost by 4-1 at Masters SC. Unfortunately they had only 3 fit players due to an injury to Craig Bradley and had to forfeit the third frame 147-0. We wish Craig a quick recovery. Clint Broome won the first frame for BCI 'D' with a scrappy 57-30 win over James Booth. Another scrappy frame saw James Robinson , for Masters SC, win by 49-47 over Paul Bradley. The third frame was conceded 147-0 to Bob Wright. The best frame of the night saw Paul Bell have a good 50-31 win against Stuart Bradley giving Masters SC the 4-1 win. Phoenix Cue Sports went to Sherwood SC 'D' and came away with a 3-2 win. It was Steve Howard that took the first frame with an awesome 92-16 win over Gareth Evans. Ash Goring put Phoenix Cue Sports 2-0 up by beating Kev Smith 65-34. Andy Fitton pulled a frame back with a 49-18 win over Dave "the legs" Allsopp. A close fourth frame saw Les Smith, for Sherwood SC, run out the winner by 53-50 over Roger Giddens. Phoenix Cue Sports are the only unbeaten team in both divisions, but remain fifth although they have games in hand over the top three teams.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.

Arnold Aces brought down to earth by Sherwood Daddies

NOTTINGHAM 6 RED SUPER LEAGUE

MATCHES PLAYED 4 AUGUST 2009

DIVISION 1

Stadium Sharks won their seventh match in a row and moved into second place in division one thanks to a 5-2 victory over Beeston Vikings. Tom Walters had some rotten luck in his game against Steve Butler. Both players struggled to find their feet but it was the Sharks player who won the game 2-0 and was left scratching his head in disbelief having played some awful snooker and yet won both frames. Daniel Di Folco looked well on course to take the first frame against Johnny Kareer with the Viking needing a snooker and brown-black to tie. Unbelievably Kareer got the snooker and Di Folco then went in off meaning the Viking could now win, which he did in style potting blue, pink and black to win the frame 34-32. Di Folco then took the next frame to put the Sharks 3-1 ahead. Bob Walker was cueing well in his first frame against Chris Hodgkinson and he opened up an early lead thanks to a break point winning run of 29. Hodgkinson had no answer as the Sharks man won the frame to put his team 5-1 ahead. Walker's form seemed to desert him in the final frame of the night as he couldn't pot a ball. He eventually managed to draw level but Hodgkinson made a very good 18 clearance to take the frame and restore some pride for the Vikings.

Arnold Aces were brought crashing down to earth after inflicting a whitewash on their previous opponents. This week's opposition, Sherwood Daddies, could well have had a whitewash of their own but for the breakbuilding prowess of John Fountain. Bash Maqsood, the three-times Notts Amateur champion took on Fountain, who reached the final of this year’s Notts Amateur Championship, in the opening game. Fountain secured the break point for the Aces with a terrific knock of 39 which also won him the frame. However it was Maqsood who won the other frame for the Daddies. Team captain Lee Crombie then beat James Booth 2-0 and Wayne Bilbie beat Aces captain James Notman 2-0 for a 5-2 victory.

BCI Giants lost a close match 3-4 at home to Pegasus Predators. Nav Hussain opened up an early lead against Kwok Yip thanks to a 19 break. Yip responded well though and proceeded to win both frames to give the Giants a 2-0 lead. Zeb Ahmed had a break point run of 22 in his 2-0 win against Neil Elliott to give the Predators the edge. The final game saw some great potting from Jonathan Mason and Danny Castel-Nuovo and Mason had the slight edge, going on to take the opening frame. The deciding frame saw both players miss some easy chances but Castel-Nuovo won it on the black.

DIVISION 2

BCI Braves had an easy 5-2 win against Beeston Warriors. Dave Salmon beat Steve Cheung 2-0. Stand-in Sam Haugh made the highest break of the match, an impressive 27 in a 1-1 draw with Lee Harlow. Mick Salmon also drew 1-1 against Jamie Cunningham.

Stadium Steelers travelled to Pegasus Colts and came away with a 4-3 win. Matt Hearson-Ellis got off to the perfect start securing the first frame against Daniel Knowles with breaks of 14 and 22 with the latter being the highest of the night. Steve Booth then destroyed the Steelers legend Pete Gormley who had two in offs in the frame and never got going. The ever reliable Dave Buckley then restored the Steelers lead by winning comfortably against Chris Mathers. Knowles got his own back on Hearson-Ellis in the next frame, winning by one point after the Steeler failed to take his chances. Booth then beat Gormley again to give the Colts the lead. Mathers needed to get the highest break or beat Buckley to ensure a win for the Colts. He had one great chance but he failed to capitalise and he eventually found himself requiring snookers. Buckley then played out the rest of the frame not leaving Mathers a chance at the high break ensuring a final frame score of 3-3 with the Steelers taking it 4-3 on the night with the high break.

Phoenix Falcons whitewashed Oakleigh Miss Fits 7-0. Joe Trout wasted no time in beating Steve Roe 2-0. Falcons captain Steve Howard was up next playing Rob Selby. A very tight first frame was snatched by Howard and a break point winning 21 saw him take the second frame much more convincingly. In the final game Stephen Lally took on Spider. Both frames were on an even keel but it was Lally who emerged victorious to seal the whitewash.

Oakleigh Daft Lads are no closer to a win as they went down 1-6 at home to BCI Breakers. Sean Croft lost the first game on the black against Ryan Cooper but he won the second thanks to a lot of snookers. Shaun Parkinson then won 2-0 against Colin Tutin with the help of a 20 break. Young Connor Kelliher made the highest break of the match, a 24, in his 2-0 win against Adam Robinson.

More information including the latest league tables is available on the league's website.
