
ANDY LEE WINS EASB PRO TICKET PLAY OFF
Andy Lee, Hinckley, Leicestershire produced a brilliant match play performance to earn England’s 2nd Main Tour nomination for this forthcoming professional season that commences in August.
Lee, 27 former English Under 21 and Open Finalist lost just five frames all weekend three of those in the final against newly crowned Under 19 Champion Adam Duffy who he defeated 6-3 from 3-1 down at Northern SC, Leeds from the top 32 available players on the English Pro Ticket Tour.
Typical of Lee’s play all the two days he pinched the 1st frame on the pink with a 48 break after Duffy broke down on 50, Duffy won the 2nd with a run of 40 and the 3rd with a 64.
Despite a break of 55 in the 4th frame Duffy only eventually won the frame on the pink for a 3-1 lead at the interval.
Lee then reeled of five frames on the bounce the 5th with a 47, 6th a 67 break, 7th on the brown after opening with 36 and the 8th solidly with runs of 30 and 38.
With his tail up Lee finished of the match with another 67 break winning the 9th without reply to add further Chinese interest to next season’s top flight – Lee’s parents are from Hong Kong.
The winner opened up his weekend with a 5-0 win over Nathan Williams ending with a break of 75 repeated the score line against Alex Dunkley then defeated Gary Wilson 5-1 with breaks of 48,49 and 50, Wilson a 50 as well in the crucial 5th frame which Lee won on the black.
On Sunday he crushed the home clubs English Amateur Champion David Grace 5-1 with breaks of 73, 47 and 48, Grace 62, 46 and a 51 in the 4th frame which he lost.
Duffy also won through to the final convincingly beating Robbie Williams 5-2 with efforts of 87,60,87 and 72 English Amateur runner up Ben Hancorn 5-0, Lee Page 5-3, 77 break and finally Matt Wilson 5-1 with just a 53 break after Wilson won the 1st with a 56.
In the first round David Grace led Jeff Cundy 4-2 the former Main Tour player drew level with a 102, Grace finished with 58, Paul Metcalf led Michael Wild 4-2 only to lose, Sean Bullock made breaks of 68,62,75,79 and 78 to beat John Welsh 5-2, English Team winner Sam Baird breaks 41,48,70,77 and 82 to overcome Anthony Parsons 5-3.
Alex Dunkley in a long struggle came back from 3-1 down to beat Brian Cox 5-4 on the black and Tam Mustafa from further back 3-0 down beat Riley’s Exeter hero Greg Batten 5-4 with a 52 in the decider, Matt Wilson also trailed Adam Wicheard, 103, 3-1.
In the second round Grace beat Wild 5-3 from 3-1 down, Page replicated the same format as Grace over Mustafa who started well breaks of 80,52 and 71 and Craig Steadman finished with a 100 against Richard King 5-2.
Grace defeated Bullock 5-3 in quarters after leading 3-1 with 86, Bullock 52 for 3-3 and in the other remaining last eight match Matt Wilson crushed Steadman 5-1 with breaks of 65 and 76.
